About this map

FindBeefLocal is a map of ranches and farms that sell beef straight to the public — by the cut, or as a quarter, half or whole animal for the freezer. It is free to search, free to list on, and it takes no part in the sale.

What's here right now

898 farms across 50 states. 597 describe their beef as grass-fed, 103 will ship it, and 645 list a phone number. 896 of the listings we added ourselves; 2 came in from the farms themselves.

Where the listings come from

There are two sources, and each farm's page says which one it is and the date.

The listings we added. A map with nothing on it is no use to a first visitor, so we built the starting set from the farms' own websites: state beef-council and "buy local" directories gave us the names, and for each farm we read its site and confirmed it was selling beef direct to the public at the time — a shop, a price list, a share reservation form or a market schedule. We recorded only what that site said, which is why some farms have no phone or email here. Farms whose sites had gone quiet, sold only wholesale, or resold other people's meat were left out. We have not spoken to any of them, and we re-check these in rounds rather than continuously.

Farm submissions. A farm can add itself through the form. A person reads each submission before it appears, which is there to stop spam and nonsense, not to verify anything. We do not visit, inspect or taste.

What we don't do

  • There is no staff and no inspector. Two people run this site, and neither has been to any of these farms.
  • Nothing is verified. "Grass-fed", "regenerative" and "hormone-free" are the farm's own words, repeated as given.
  • No listing is paid, promoted, sponsored or ranked in exchange for anything. Nobody can buy a position. Results order by distance when you search and alphabetically when you don't.
  • No payments pass through the site, and we take no commission. You deal with the farm.
  • We do not rate or review farms, because we have no basis on which to do it honestly.

How location is handled

Listings carry a ZIP code and nothing more precise. Map pins sit at the geographic center of that ZIP, so a pin is a town, not a driveway. Whatever contact details a farm lists are public on its page.

The "near me" button asks your browser for permission and sorts the list in your browser. Searching by ZIP sends only that ZIP to our server to look up its coordinates.

Listings go stale

Herds sell out for the year, ranches stop selling direct, websites lapse. Each farm's page shows the date it was added. Nothing here is a live inventory — contact the farm before you drive out, and expect bulk orders to wait for the next processing date.

If a listing is yours and something is wrong, submit it again with the right details and we will swap it in.
